Get up to speed on traffic channels and learn how to optimize them.

What is a traffic channel?

In addition to the RTX Platform userbase (Channel 50), you can access other sources of traffic through our partnerships, which we call "channels". If a channel is not performing well for your campaign, you can pause it to stop receiving its traffic.

Channels are made up of sub-IDs, which are more granular sources of traffic. You can use blacklists to block traffic from low-performing sub-IDs.

How are my bids calculated for traffic channels?

Traffic is grouped into three Quality Tiers based on conversion likelihood (High, Medium, and Low). The bid that competes for an impression is determined by your Conversion Boost: Quality Tier sliders, located in your Campaign Settings, which allows you to adjust how much you'd like to bid on impressions from each Quality Tier.

NOTE: Most channels don't fall into just one Quality Tier. Quality Tiers are actually sub-ID groupings, which are more granular sources of traffic than channels.

When your target competes for an impression from an external channel (i.e., any channel that is not Channel 50), it also competes with advertisers who work directly with that channel.

Are traffic channels available for Adult Pops campaigns?

Yes, Adult Pops campaigns are currently eligible for traffic from certain channels. When you create an Adult Pops campaign, the available channels will be shown on the Channel Optimization tab within your campaign.

Where can I find more information about each channel's traffic?

The Channel Optimization tab within your campaign displays volume indicators and supported device types for each channel. For more information about a particular channel, please contact our team.

How can I measure traffic channel performance?

There are three ways to measure traffic channel performance data:

  1. Use our reporting suite to see granular channel data.

    NOTE:
Channel Report data is available from April 1st, 2016 and later.

  2. Append the {channel} macro to your creative URL(s) to track channel data in your third-party tracking platform.

  3. See campaign-level channel data at a glance on the Channel Optimization tab within a Pops campaign.

TIP: Increase conversions with Blackballer! Blackballer intelligently pauses any channels and blacklists any sub-IDs and domains that have not received conversions after sufficient testing. Enable Blackballer on your campaign’s Settings page. Learn more.

How do I customize which channels I receive traffic from?

All traffic channels are enabled by default, but you can pause them individually or in bulk, for a single campaign or across multiple campaigns.

New channels are being added all the time. These are great opportunities to test new traffic sources! By default, your campaign will run on newly added channels. To change this, uncheck the "Auto-enable new channels" setting on your campaign's Channel Optimization tab.

For individual campaigns:

To pause or enable one or more traffic channels within a single campaign, follow the steps below.

  1. Log into your RTX Platform account, then click the Pops tab in the navigation bar.

  2. From the Campaigns tab, click the campaign where you want to pause or enable traffic channel(s), then click the Channel Optimization tab.

  3. In the Status column, click the icon next to the channel you want to edit and select the green Enabled dot to receive traffic from the channel, or the gray Paused icon to prevent your campaign from receiving traffic from the channel. You can pause or enable multiple channels within a campaign by checking the box next to each channel you want to update, then clicking the Paused or Enabled icon above the table.

For multiple campaigns:

To enable pause or enable one or more traffic channels across multiple campaigns, follow the steps below.

  1. Log into your RTX Platform account, then click the Pops tab in the navigation bar.

  2. Click the Campaigns tab to navigate to your All Campaigns dashboard. Check the box next to each campaign you want to update.

NOTE: When selecting multiple campaigns one at a time, they must be on the same page. Use the dropdown below the Campaigns table to display up to 500 rows per page. To select all campaigns on the page, check the top-most checkbox in the table header. To select all campaigns across all pages, check the top-most checkbox in the table, then click the link above the table to select all rows on all pages.

  3. From the Edit dropdown, select Bulk Update Channel Settings.

  4. Select Enabled or Paused in the Status dropdown of each channel you want to update. If you don't want to update a channel's status, leave the selection set to No Change.

  5. Click the Bulk Update Channel Settings button to apply your changes to the campaigns you selected.

NOTE: You may encounter a delay when bulk updating a large number of campaigns at once. Your new channel settings will still apply even if you navigate away from the page or close the tab while the updated settings are processing.
